Take a Look At a Wet “Running of the Bulls”
No one gets gored when these particular “bulls” run – and the setting isn’t Spain!
Instead, these eager fishermen are here for the seasonal run of bull trout.
The “bull trout” is actually a char, and was known as the Dolly Varden until 1980, when it was reclassified as a separate species.
(Note that they are listed as “threatened” under the U.S. Endangered Species Act and as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, so anglers need to treat them with special care.)
They have been measured at up to 41 ins. in length, and weighing 32 lb. Some are migratory while others stay in the same stream all their lives. The migratory fish are typically much larger than those that stay put.
This video features an annual bull trout run of migratory fish.
