Widespread throughout lakes, dams and rivers in central and southern Africa, the Tigerfish is a formidable predator right at the top of the fish food chain.

Its large, razor-sharp teeth demand careful handling, and its bony mouth means that only about one fish in three is successfully hooked after a strike.

No fishing in this interesting video from the Smithsonian Channel - but it gives you a good idea of why they make such great fly fishing targets.
